Anyone whose been accused of a crime is eligible for free, legal, representation – especially if they can’t afford it. Often, a defendant will be given a pro bono los angeles criminal defense lawyer if they are unable to afford their own attorney. Many court appointed criminal lawyers work for the state, or through a public defender’s office. It means the pro bono attorney is an employee of the state, and cares more about his relationship with the court/judge, than they do you. It’s a sheer conflict of interest, and it means the attorney will not risk his or her reputation with the court. It means the pro bono attorney will be more likely to go along with what the prosecutor says. It means if you have been falsely accused – you should go with a private attorney who can, and will, defend you.
